Broken Arrow Pest Control

Broken Arrow Pest Control

Another mild winter almost gone means more bugs this spring and summer. Termite calls have already started and it’s only mid February which tells me the ground temperature never got cold enough. Here in Broken Arrow or shall I say North Eastern Oklahoma we experience a large variety of pests. They don’t call it Green Country for nothing.

With the mild winter and spring shortly approaching I fully expect to see large numbers of Ant calls, Termite calls and Spider calls. These three pests seem to be the ones that thrive the most from the mild winter. While last year Black Widow Spiders populations were at all time highs in the Tulsa metro area so were calls for Ants. I’d highly recommend a late winter treatment prior to the moist, humid weather coming shortly this spring. This will help get a jumpstart on the Spiders and Ant problems we typically have during Spring and Summer here in Broken Arrow, Bixby, Jenks and Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Currently EnviroTech Exterminating is offering $25 Off the Initial Pest Control Treatment and $100 Off a Termidor Termite Control Treatment.

Broken Arrow Pest Control

Finally some winter weather, not that we got much but with this recent cold front maybe the fleas, ticks and mosquitoes will not be nearly as bad this year as I figured they would be. We were in need of this weather as I was beginning the think Oklahoma had become a winter destination for people looking for warm weather.  Pests are controlled somewhat by the weather and these cold fronts are great to limit the reproductive patterns of many pests. The only problem with having cold air masses move in is Rodents typically move in too. Broken Arrow Pest Control is changed somewhat by the weather. Enjoy the snow, what little we got and be happy we have spring near.

Cockroaches
Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

There are hundreds of species of cockroach around the world. We’re lucky in Broken Arrow, OK we don’t have to deal with the giant hissing cockroaches of Madagascar, but there a plenty of varieties of these unpleasant insects that make Broken Arrow, Oklahoma their home. The hot, humid summer climate of Oklahoma unfortunately provides an ideal breeding ground for many species of roaches, and the abundant supply of food and shelter that humans unintentionally supply them with means that Oklahoma’s battle with cockroaches is going to be going on as long as there are people here.
One of the easiest ways to tell apart different species of roaches you find in Broken Arrow is by their size:

Small Roaches

The German cockroach is the species of small cockroaches that are often seen indoors. Although called German cockroaches, the species originated in Africa and has difficulty surviving in colder climates, so the hot, humid summer climate of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma is a perfect home for them. German cockroaches will often have an unpleasant odor when disturbed. These bugs will eat nearly anything, including soap, glue, and toothpaste. German cockroaches are particularly good at establishing themselves inside of houses, and can be extremely difficult to get rid of once they’ve set themselves up inside a home.

Big Roaches

The American Cockroach is another one of the most common species of cockroach found in Oklahoma. These dark-colored roaches can grow up to 1 to 1 1/2 inches in length, and prefer to gather in dark, moist places. Equally comfortable inside the home or out, American cockroaches will routinely set themselves up in wood piles, basements, under refrigerators, or any other dark place with easy access to shelter.

Oriental Cockroaches or Waterbugs are another large species of cockroach, but unlike the Tree roach these bugs are not as content to live outdoors. They get the name waterbug from their attraction to damp, dark places and they love to gather around pipes and under sinks. Though similar in size to Tree roaches, their wings are comparatively underdeveloped and they are only capable of flying short distances.

No matter what the species, cockroaches can be difficult to get rid of. Sprays and bombs often have little effect except making the cockroaches stronger. If you see cockroaches in your home, the best thing to do is contact a professional pest control expert who can develop a comprehensive plan to get rid of the roaches and stop them from coming in to your home again.

Pest control has evolved.
It used to be if you had a pest problem you called an exterminator and they would treat the situation with pesticides, chemicals and other earth-harming products to eliminate pests
but with evolution comes understanding. EnviroTech Exterminating understands that treating our landscape with hazardous chemicals is not only unsafe for the environment, it is also potentially unhealthy. That’s why EnviroTech offers our clients Organic / Green pest control.

EnviroTech stands for a GREENER and safer approach to integrated pest management (IPM). Not just greener, but UNIQUELY GREEN.
EnviroTech’s systematic approach to managing pests incorporates all reasonable measures to prevent pest problems by properly identifying pests, monitoring population dynamics, and utilizing cultural, physical, biological or other non-chemical pest population management methods to reduce pests. Use of growth inhibitors and pheromones is a very effective tool that EnviroTech uses.

Our GREEN IPM is a methodical strategy for managing pests focusing on long-term prevention or suppression with minimal impact on human health, the environment and non-target organisms. In addition to our other IPM tactics, our approach emphasizes prevention, avoidance, monitoring and suppression. Consequently, we maximize public safety and reduce environmental risk with our eco-friendly pest control system.  If you are in need of Pest Control and would prefer to utilize an approach using pheromones and growth inhibitors rather than conventional poisons contact Envirotech Exterminating today.  We can be reached at (918) 282-7621 or on the web at: www.GotPest.com.

Brown Recluse Spiders:

The Brown recluse spider coexisting with humans can be dangerous.  They are very common in Oklahoma and can be found in large numbers in your Broken Arrow and or Tulsa area home.  They do cause serious problems if you are bitten and require immediate medical attention.

This spider lives in dark corners and places inside houses and also under furniture, boxes and books.
It has a rather shy and non-aggressive behavior, although occasionally the Brown Recluse Spider bites humans because they share the same habitat.

Bites only occur when the spider is disturbed, accidentally touched, and when putting on seldom used clothing and shoes where the Brown Recluse Spider has decided to live.
Its web is made of a loose and irregular yet very sticky thread. It is only built as a daytime retreat and as an egg holder.
Brown Recluse Spiders can survive six months without food or water, hidden in their lairs during daytime and roaming at night.
This arachnid prefers undisturbed places, so the Brown Recluse Spider usually bites humans when it is caught between a part of the body and another surface, for example, when children are playing under house furniture such as beds and tables or in the garage. Bites also happen while a person who is sleeping suddenly rolls in a bed where the Brown Recluse Spider has climbed, or when dressing with clothes or shoes where the spider has hidden itself.
Structure:
Like all arachnids, this type is also formed by a cephalothoraxes connecting the 4 pairs of legs and the abdomen. The Brown Recluse is usually found to be no larger than a penny.

Life-cycle:

Adult brown recluse spiders often live about one to two years. Each female produces several egg sacs over a period of two to three months, from May to July, with approximately 50 eggs in each sac. The eggs hatch in about one month. The spiderlings take about one year to grow to adulthood. The brown recluse spider is resilient and can tolerate up to 6 months of extreme drought and scarcity or absence of food, most notably observed on one occasion to survive in controlled captivity for over five seasons without food.
