The number of calls for Termites has spiked as of this week. We are seeing a number of homes with termite swarmers also called Alates. These termites are reproductive termites and when you have a swarm it’s an indicator that you have termites. So what does a termite swarmer or Alate look like? Well, they have white/clear wings that are thin and these wings fall off relatively fast. The termite itself will be darker in color and have a body that is relatively the same width from head to the end of their body.
Termites are sometimes confused for being ants but they are nothing like their ant cousins. Ant’s are more segmented and have a clear break or joint between the head, body and end. Got an amazing call today from a couple in Broken Arrow that had a Opossum hung up on the fence. They thought it’s leg was stuck between the boards on the fence but it turned out to be his personal parts. We saved this opossum from certain death. With winter in full swing pests such as these are looking for warm places to hold up for the winter. This animal was likely looking at his options when this horrible accident occurred. He’s a very lucky Opossum that we got there when we did.

Are you in the market for a new home? If so then you probably already know that most lenders will require form ODAFF-1 otherwise known as a Wood Infestation Report. This report goes beyond just Termites. Other Wood Infesting Insects such as Wood Boring Beetles, Carpenter Ants and Wood Bee’s can also be part of the inspection.
Other considerations may be for the Moisture Damage, WoodRot Report. If the home is an older home or perhaps has a crawl space then this might be a good addition to your Wood Infestation Report. Termite Insect Damage is different from Moisture Damage.
So what if termite evidence is found during the inspection? A treatment will be called for and once completed another report called an ODAFF-2 will be issued. If termite damage, activity or evidence is found a proper termite treatment quote will be provided.
How long is a ODAFF-1 report good for? 90 days from the date of the inspection is traditionally the time period. The report is good for the purchase of the home inspected.
Is the ODAFF-1 report a warranty? NO, the ODAFF-1 is a report declaring that at the time of inspection no visual evidence of activity was present. It does not mean hidden damage is not present. The inspector does not tear into walls or take apart sections to detect termites. No inspection is 100% fail proof when it comes to termites.
Termites start with a very small colony and can take years to reach detection. Once the first signs of Termites is present usually the colony has grown to thousands if not a hundred thousand or more Termites.
What can be done if Termite activity is found? A Termite Treatment is the only way to protect a home from termites. We offer treatment for any size, type of home.
