Pest Control Problems in Broken Arrow

Pest Control Problems in Broken Arrow

May was filled with rain but the ants didn’t care. Ants are the biggest problem for majority of new customers calling in. These pests are followed second to spiders. Although they are in huge populations this year they are not any worse from what we had last year. Both last sporing and this spring had more rain than any spring I can remember.

Tips to help make you’re pest control service last longer.

1) Don’t water for two – three day’s after service. This allows the exterior perimeter treatment to really take hold and start working through the colonies of ants.

2) keep the home tidy. A better interior treatment can be performed in a clean home that is free from clutter

3) Don’t use other pest products over our barriers we establish. The products you buy over the counter typically will not last as long as the commercial grade products.

4) Make sure windows are caulked and sealed. If they are not seal them.

5) If you have a crawl space install a Vapor Barrier.

6) Keep the yard trimmed. Pests thrive in yards that are not kept up.

EnviroTech Exterminating Bed Bug Heat Treatment

EnviroTech Exterminating Bed Bug Heat Treatment. Serving Broken Arrow, Jenks, Bixby and the metro Tulsa area

A horrible trend has been occurring locally with bedbug infestations. I personally have seen a rise in the number of bed bug cases in Tulsa and the surrounding area and this trend can be blamed on a number of factors. Some factors include people moving from homes or apartments with bedbugs to other properties thus spreading this pest to the new home. They can be also spread via people that have them accidentally leaving eggs or even live bedbugs at a movie theater, favorite place to eat, a library, a school… All places where human activity is present can potentially get bed bugs.

So, what can you do to protect your home or business from getting bed bugs in the first place? Well, there is no real preventative measure that will insure you don’t get these pests. All you can really do is be proactive in minimizing the chances. How do you do this? Well, first you must not spend time in places that you know have bedbugs. Now, we know that in most cases you will not know if somebody or a place has bedbugs but staying away from hoes that do is a good start. Look for signs of bed bug activity, spotting on chairs, mattresses, bed frames, or even seeing live bedbugs on the walls or crawling on a bed. If you see these things that’s pretty much all the evidence you need to stay away from where you see them.

Don’t buy used furniture without inspecting the furniture first. Used mattresses and boxsprings are not a good idea. If you even think bedbugs might be present do not sit down or rub up against the furniture. Have regular pest control services done at you’re home or business. This will not stop a bedbug infestation but it sure could help by putting a layer of protection down to reduce the chances of bedbugs even making it. Keep in mind, bedbugs usually come in on the body, on clothing or on something you bring into the home. Bedbugs are introduced into a structure usually by people visiting, working or living in the structure.

What treatment options are available to deal with bed bug pest problems?

You have a few options available here.

First, you can study this pest, learn all about them and their life cycle and do you’re own pest control services. This way for the vast majority of people does not work out. In the end they usually have spent a great deal of money on pest control products and time with little to no control of the bed bugs.

Hire a professional to treat the bed bug problem with pesticides: You can have a professional pest control operator do a chemical treatment. This could be like gambling. If the operator knows what they are doing, has done many of these treatments you can get them under control this way in light to mild infestations. It however may require a series of pest control applications and these treatments require pesticides to be placed all over the structure. It’s not the same as a general pest control treatment service and the costs of chemical treatments can vary. Once done the costs could be higher then a heat treatment as multiple services may be needed. This may also require vacating the property for the night to allow the chemicals to dry before re-entry to the home or structure. A usually the bedbugs are not all killed or gone at the time of service.

Hire a professional to do a heat treatment service: Heat is a known killer of bedbugs. A professionally done heat treatment can eradicate bedbugs. This likely is the quickest way of getting relief and requires the least amount of follow-up work. Success rates are far higher of success with heat over just chemical.

Freezing the bedbugs: This may work to kill some bedbugs but it does not get cold enough in Oklahoma for a long enough period of time. Bedbugs are frozen with freeze machines but this may be better suited for localized areas of a known infestation and leaves much to risk.

Steam: Steam kills bedbugs but this like freezing them might be better suited as a part of a bedbug control plan.

Chemical and Heat Treatment: This provides both fast relief from bedbugs and a residual in place just in case. It also is nice if you have concerns that bedbugs have been spread to you’re vehicle.

So what’s next? Well, obviously you need to first inquire about a bedbug treatment, set the appointment and get the home ready. EnviroTech Exterminating offers Heat and or Chemical Treatment Services. We even offer a totally green service available with our heat treatment if desired for additional protection. We can customize you’re service to meet the needs of you’re unique situation because every infestation is different and every household is different. Fall Pests Cause Pest Control Problems

Fall is here and the pests will cause pest control problems

With fall and cooler weather all sorts of pests from rodents to spiders are looking to find a warm, cozy home to shack up in. This can be a residential home or a commercial business. These pests do not care which one as long as they have their needs met. After all, nobody wants to be out in the cold when they could easily find an entry point to get in.

So, what do you need to do in fall to prepare for these pests? In Oklahoma we have weather that can change from one minute to the next so it could be 60 degree’s today and 30 degree’s tomorrow. This makes the homes look like paradise to a mouse or spider. Typically a home or business can have dozens of easy access points for these types of pests to enter. You have weep holes, soffit, garage doors without good seals, rotted trim, rotted garage framing and cracks and gaps in siding, brick and other types of holes, access points all around the home. We recommend dealing with these security problems so spiders and rodents don’t take advantage of you.

As the weather gets colder, more and more of these pests will enter. You need a plan in place to minimize their ability to stay. After all, rodents leave feces and urine just about everywhere they go. Mice are known carriers/vectors of disease.

EnviroTech services the Broken Arrow, Jenks, Bixby and Coweta metro area’s. We are locally owned and operated and love helping good people with their pest problems. Bed Bug’s on the Rise in Tulsa

Bed Bug’s on the rise in Tulsa

Bedbug problems are fairly common now in Tulsa. These pests are known to hitch hike from place to place meaning you can pick them up just about anywhere. That evening dinner at you’re favorite restaurant could be the same place somebody just visited that has bedbugs, thus leaving a bed bug egg or even live bedbug for you to sit on next. This same scenario could happen at the movies, the library, the laundry mat or even at somebody’s home that you know.

For the most part bedbugs go unnoticed at first. The pests trail carbon dioxide to once introduced into you’re household they will only take a short amount of time to find you sleeping in you’re bed or on the couch. Bedbugs are then easy to spread throughout the home as they leave the eggs in a number of places. The bed bug egg is sticky, tacky to the touch so they stick to you’re body or clothing making spreading them highly likely. This is why they are spreading so rapidly in the Broken Arrow, Tulsa, Jenks and Bixby area. Really no place is safe… Bedbugs do not care about social economics they only care about one thing, blood.

Bed Bug activity in the Tulsa area has increased dramatically over the last 3-5 years. Every day somebody new finds out they have bedbugs. Though they can be treated for they are difficult to eradicate. Some reasons they can be difficult is that they thrive in clutter, leave eggs in a number of hard to get to places and are excellent at hiding. Although somebody with a good plan can do treatment themselves the percentage of successful people going it alone is very low.

EnviroTech offer’s a variety of treatment options for our clients based on a number of individual circumstances. If you are dealing with a bed bug problem and need a Bed Bug Treatment please visit us online by clicking Bed Bug Control or call (918) 282-7621 to talk about you’re unique situation.

Termite Swarmers are Active in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

Termite Swarmers are Active in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

The number of calls for Termites has spiked as of this week. We are seeing a number of homes with termite swarmers also called Alates. These termites are reproductive termites and when you have a swarm it’s an indicator that you have termites. If they are found outside It could also mean somebody near you has termites and they have now spread to your home or business.

So what does a termite swarmer or Alate look like? Well, they have white/clear wings that are thin and these wings fall off relatively fast. The termite itself will be darker in color and have a body that is relatively the same width from head to the end of their body.

Termites are sometimes confused for being ants but they are nothing like their ant cousins. Ant’s are more segmented and have a clear break or joint between the head, body and end. Even though we are talking termites here ants can be just as destructive as termites. Carpenter Ants do damage to structures just like termites do. We can assist with both of these pests.

With spring here and more humidity the swarmers are very active. These termite colonies are spreading to start new colonies. Treatment is absolutely necessary and if termite control is what you are needing please call EnviroTech at (918) 282-7621 for a Free Estimate. EnviroTech is locally owned and operated in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and offers a wide range of pest services from termite inspections, green pest control to nuisance wildlife removal for the Broken Arrow, Jenks and Bixby metro area. Nuisance Wildlife Removal Services Broken Arrow, Bixby, Jenks, Oklahoma

Nuisance Wildlife Removal Services Broken Arrow, Bixby, Jenks, Oklahoma

This week I had the opportunity to help some folks that called with an animal stuck in there wall. Upon arrival I found an opening that had been chewed out by squirrels in the soffit of the home. The animal in the wall however was located along the inside wall of the garage about 15′ from this opening. Since squirrels are such good climbers I had my doubts that it was a squirrel stuck in the wall unless it was a baby squirrel.

This home had no access to the attic space as the entry had been blocked off by the electronic garage door equipment so getting inside was not going to happen. We did however take a sheetrock knife and cut a small 3″ x 3″ hole in the garage side of the wall where the noise was coming from. Once the piece cut was removed a smaller sized sparrow poked it’s head out the hole and just looked at us. The bird starred for about 10 seconds before it jumped up on the side of the opening and then flew away. I could tell by the smile on the bird that it was happy to be free 🙂

Our Rescued Baby Squirrel

Needless to say a baby squirrel was found in the hot water tank closet in the garage. This squirrel was not injured, she had just fallen out of the attic space. I wanted to reunite the squirrel with it’s mother but It could take literally days to reunite her with her mother due to the lack of access and the risk of her falling 5′ if we just put her back in the 3 inch opening that was available in the closet. The baby squirrel also risked life from dehydration so we needed to act fast to assure this baby squirrel would have the highest possible chance for survival. I contacted a wildlife rehabilitation facility in Foil, Oklahoma called Wild Heart Ranch. The people at the ranch were very pleasant and understood the need for this animal to have a place to go and asked that I bring her in.

Once I arrived at the ranch I was given a tour of the facility and got to meet many of the wildlife animals they care for. Our baby squirrel was immediately cared for and fed. She was placed with three other squirrels that were about her age. I said goodbye to the baby squirrel knowing she was in good hands. The ranch that took her in takes donations in order to run and they help hundreds of animals that wouldn’t have a chance without this help. Anybody that looks to make a donation should consider donating to this rehabilitation facility that helps these animals with such care. You can find their website at http://www.wildheartranch.org

Natural, Green Pest Control Services

Natural, Green Pest Control Services

Today I want to take a moment to talk about some of the reasons why a customer chooses to use our natural, green pest control services.

Every day we as Americans are bombarded with toxins. We eat foods treated with pesticides and drink water treated with chemicals. With population growth comes higher food demands. As a country, a world with a growing population the demands for more food and clean water require more chemicals and pesticides. We need food that we grow to produce faster and more resistant to insects so it’s not ruined. All these human induced pressures means we must use more pesticides and usable potable water from places that we may not have been treating in the first place.

Sewage water is being treated in places to irrigate golf courses, and other land due to water shortage issues. Desalination plants are becoming more and more popular as a means of treating sea water. The truth is as more people populate the globe more methods of maintaining these populations are necessary thus the need for more chemical and pesticides to produce larger crops to feed the masses, water to keep a growing population alive.

Green Pest Control Services.. Safer For What Matters Most

With all the toxins we are subjected to daily it’s not a bad idea to consider using green pesticides rather than synthetic pesticides in your home. I’m not going to tell you one is better than the other as they both do their job. With a proper Integrated Pest Management “IPM” program you may find that you’re business, home doesn’t need the highly toxic pesticides and can use something more natural or greener.

Some circumstances where you may want to use a green pesticide over a synthetic:

1) You have customers in and out that may smell the synthetic pesticides. I’ve been to restaurants with my family, walked in the door and almost been knocked down by the smell of synthetic pesticides. I knew from the smell of the pesticide that they just had a roach treatment recently. The smells were strong and we decided to go eat somewhere else.

2) You are concerned that your employees/family may have allergies to synthetic pesticides. Many people have allergies or even asthma.

3) You have young children in you’re household. Babies that are at crawling stage constantly put their fingers in their mouths. Less Toxic pesticides are better then more Toxic pesticides in this situation.

4) You don’t have a serious pest problem and want the least amount of toxins but still want to reduce pest populations and keep them under control. There truly may be no need for a synthetic pesticide in your unique situation.

One thing I want to make sure people understand is Green may not necessarily mean Organic. An Organic pesticide may be made of things like mint oils, garlic, neem oil and other essential oils. A Green pesticide may be made of a pyrethrin. The product of a plant that most pesticides are made from. It attacks the nerve center of insects. Most synthetic pesticides are derived from taking this pyrethrin and synthesizing it to make a pyrethroid.

Hopefully this blog posting gives you at least some insight on why you may be better off using green pest control services rather then using a synthetic. If you are a residential property owner or business owner/manager that is interested in a Green IPM Service please feel free to call us at (918) 282-7621 to schedule an appointment. I’d be happy to help… For more on our services visit us at Pest Control Services today. EnviroTech services the Broken Arrow, Jenks and Bixby metro area and is locally owned and operated.

Mole and Gopher Services in Broken Arrow, Jenks & Bixby, OK

Mole and Gopher Services in Broken Arrow, Jenks & Bixby, Oklahoma.

You know moles and gophers are destructive little pests. They thrive where food sources are plentiful. Ever notice as you’re driving down the road all the mounds of dirt in clusters from these critters? Moles and gophers are active year round so you will see these mounds regardless of the time of year. They can be destructive to a yard since gophers eat roots and the moles leave tunnels in the soil.

A yard in Jenks with moles

So, why do you have moles or gophers? Well, moles chase after things like earth worms and grubs. They can sense, detect these creatures in soil so moles will follow them around depleting them and moving. This is why a neighborhood that has them will see yard after yard infested with these pests. Once they deplete the food in a yard they just move next door and then back and forth.

Gophers love roots so if you plant a garden, spend time working in the yard planting flowers, plants and so forth then gophers could be a problem. Gophers differ from moles in many ways. They are after different foods, moles are gophers look nothing alike and gophers tunnel deep into soil where moles prefer the area closer to the surface where their food is easily found and the soil easier to tunnel through. Gophers can dig deep in the soil and may have living quarters a few feet down.

So what do we do about these pests? First thing I always look at is the soil types that we are finding these animals in. If you live in the souther parts of Broken Arrow, Jenks or Bixby then it’s likely you may have sandy loam soil. This soil is found in area’s closer to the Arkansas River. These animals thrive in sandy loam soil types. If you start going north the soil changes to more of a mix and then to other soil types which can be harder to tunnel through for these animals. They don’t prefer clay nearly as much as sandy loam. I would say this is likely the reason Jenks, Bixby and Broken Arrow tend to have more issues with moles then I see in the north eastern cities.

We can of course trap them, which helps but may not be a total solution since they migrate and move around. Once you do this you may just be inviting you’re neighbor’s moles over to take control of the areas you just cleared. They can be poisoned but once again you may end up just seeing more move in because of the competition being removed. They can be smoked out with products that kill them but once again it may not be a total solution. They can be driven out with products that make what they eat taste horrible but yet this may not be a total solution. The truth is that nothing is a total solution for these animals because they are pests that migrate. Most people will tend to have moles or gophers because of where they live. It’s kind of like having ants every spring… It just happens.

EnviroTech can help by looking at your unique situation and determining what may work best for the area, place, soil type you may have. Sometimes the best thing is a combination of methods. Sometimes depending on what’s around you only one method is needed. I would recommend scheduling an appointment to find out what may be the best way to help your mole/gopher problem.

No matter what you decide to do about these pests I hope this page at least helps you to understand these animals better.

You can visit Mole and Gopher Control for more information or call us at (918) 282-7621 to schedule an appointment.

Termite Inspection, Termite Treatment and Control in Broken Arrow, Jenks and Bixby, Oklahoma

Termite Inspection, Termite Treatment and Control Services in Broken Arrow, Jenks and Bixby, Oklahoma.

By: EnviroTech Exterminating

With it now almost mid February it’s time to start thinking about termites. Soon with temperatures rising and the humidity rising, termites will begin swarming. A termite swarm happens when a healthy colony of termites have grown to a large enough colony that the termites separate to form additional colonies. They usually don’t make it to far as termites are not the best of flyers and they lose their wings relatively fast.

Termites found under hot water tank

Termites play a huge part of mother natures natural recycle process. These wood destroying pests eat up wood, rotting wood and any products made of wood to help in cleaning up our planet. These little pests are capable of eating the supports of a house, home, business or any structure if not treated.

When you buy a home most lenders require the home to be inspected for wood destroying organisms. This inspection is called a ODAFF1. The lender doesn’t like to loan money on a home with active termites so they request this inspection. Lenders will happily loan the money on a home that is treated for termites but usually won’t fund the purchase until proof of treatment has been provided. If termites are found and treatment is then provided the lender will require proof and at that time usually fund the purchase pending any other issues.

EnviroTech Exterminating offers wood destroying organism reports or inspections for clients in the process of purchasing a home. If termite activity is found a proposal for treatment can be provided at no additional cost. For those that already own their home EnviroTech does provide services to help protect the home from termite pests. Call (918) 282-7621 today to request an appointment.
