Bed Bug Treatment Services and Types of Treatment Options

We receive calls everyday from folks dealing with one of the worst pests you can have infest a dwelling, bedbugs. In Broken Arrow alone our call volume has more than doubled over the last two years. This call volume extends into the Jenks, Bixby, Coweta and Tulsa area. No home is free from getting these pests. Bed Bugs are parasitic and feed on human and other animal blood. They relay on blood meals to grow and lay eggs. One of the most common things I hear in a bed bug phone calls is that the person has been treating with foggers, dusts and a number of other products for weeks. Sometimes they have already spent $300-$500 on chemicals but still have bed bugs. Why is it that these foggers and other products are not working? Well, for the most part these pests are experts at hiding. It is very rare for an individual without proper training and expertise to clear a home of bed bugs. I’m not saying it’s impossible, it’s just rare to have success.

Bedbugs can quickly build a resistance to chemical products and in many cases using a fogger just makes matters worse. We do not use foggers in any way when dealing with bedbugs. Typically a bedbug infestation can be dealt with in a number of way’s but some of the methods used to treat are not very efficient. For instance, freezing can work but you need super cold temperatures below zero for a long duration of time. Our temperatures here in Oklahoma do not tend to get cold enough and who can stay in a home for day’s at below zero temperatures!

Another method is steam but imagine trying to steam an entire house. The steam temperature must be higher than most store bought steamers can go and this really is only feasible for spot treatments. It’s likely not going to solve or eradicate a bedbug infestation, bed bugs can be anywhere and everywhere.

Another method is the chemical treatment. Chemicals do work if done properly but it can take numerous treatments these day’s due to the high numbers of bedbugs that are now chemical resistant. a light infestation may only need one or two treatments but a bigger bed bug infestation could need numerous services. In many cases a series of chemical treatments can cost more than doing a heat treatment.

Heat is likely the most effective and efficient means of treating bedbugs. The nice thing about heat is bedbugs cannot survive the temperatures used doing the treatment process and unlike cold which takes day’s, heat only takes hours. Literally you can have the dwelling heat treated and stay the night in the dwelling where with just chemical treatments you may need to stay out of the home as most everything gets wet. Heat also kills bed bug eggs! In most cases we at EnviroTech put down a chemical barrier after our heat process is complete. The reason for doing this is to help minimize the chances of the customer reintroducing these pests into the home. After all, you got them from somewhere and they are just as easy to get again.

It is recommended that vehicles be cleaned and vacuumed regularly to reduce chances of a bed bug or bedbug eggs making it’s way into the home or dwelling. Bedbug eggs are sticky, tacky and are easily introduced by accident on clothing, shoes, bags, back packs and so on. Bed Bug Removal, Thermal Remediation Heat Treatments

Bed Bugs,

These parasitic pests infest you’re home, you’re furniture, you’re bed, you’re belongings… They bite and feed on you, you’re family and even pets. They usually go unnoticed at first biting periodically till the population grows. The 1st stage instar nymphs are so small they are hard to see. About the size of a ball in a ballpoint pen. They grow from this size feeding between molting till they reach the 5th stage which then makes them reproductive. The female bedbug can lay hundreds of eggs. These eggs can be laid in many places. Sleeping in a different room only spreads the bed bugs as they trail carbon dioxide and are able to crawl about 20 feet in any given 24 hour period. The eggs are sticky, tacky and can travel on you, on shoes. on clothing, in bags, and in so many other ways making them spread bye the host. These pests are parasitic vampires and the difficulty in dealing with them is getting tougher and tougher.

Numerous studies are now finding bed bug resistance to pyretheroids and neonicatoids, the most commonly used chemical combinations of insecticides used to eradicate bed bugs. These pests area already hard to get rid of but resistant bed bugs make it even tougher.

We personally talk to people daily about bedbugs and with many already having spent hundreds of dollars trying to deal with these pests themselves. Some have even hired pest control operators, companies to deal with the bedbugs but chemical resistance is growing and not all pest control operators are equal in the quality of work provided and use of pesticides. Of course the biggest problem is people themselves. Here is a list of a few reasons why somebody may get or have bedbugs after a treatment.

1)     Bedbugs reintroduced unknowingly into the structure
2)     Possible bed bug issue at work or place of business
3)     Bedbug problem spread to vehicle
4)     They know somebody that has bed bugs and visit each other
5)     The home was not properly prepared for treatment, clutter, debree
6)     A portion of the bedbug population has become chemical resistance

Of course many other factors could be the cause but these a few of the common reasons.

At EnviroTech we recommend dealing with this pest problem sooner rather than later. It only get’s worse putting it off. Heat kills bed bugs and we offer this service. Introducing to the structure the use of a process called thermal remediation or heat kills bedbugs and bed bug eggs. Chemicals can be used sparingly for a residual and placed in strategic places rather than everywhere keeping toxic chemical use at a minimum.

The thermal eradication treatment for bed bugs can take hours to all day depending on a number of factors such as structure size and layout. The home must be vacated for the day of treatment but you’ll be glad to know you can stay in the home that evening. Our services are offered to the Tulsa metro area including Broken Arrow, Bixby, Coweta, Jenks and other local area communities. EnviroTech Exterminating wants to be you’re exterminator of choice. EnviroTech Exterminating Bed Bug Heat Treatment

EnviroTech Exterminating Bed Bug Heat Treatment. Serving Broken Arrow, Jenks, Bixby and the metro Tulsa area

A horrible trend has been occurring locally with bedbug infestations. I personally have seen a rise in the number of bed bug cases in Tulsa and the surrounding area and this trend can be blamed on a number of factors. Some factors include people moving from homes or apartments with bedbugs to other properties thus spreading this pest to the new home. They can be also spread via people that have them accidentally leaving eggs or even live bedbugs at a movie theater, favorite place to eat, a library, a school… All places where human activity is present can potentially get bed bugs.

So, what can you do to protect your home or business from getting bed bugs in the first place? Well, there is no real preventative measure that will insure you don’t get these pests. All you can really do is be proactive in minimizing the chances. How do you do this? Well, first you must not spend time in places that you know have bedbugs. Now, we know that in most cases you will not know if somebody or a place has bedbugs but staying away from hoes that do is a good start. Look for signs of bed bug activity, spotting on chairs, mattresses, bed frames, or even seeing live bedbugs on the walls or crawling on a bed. If you see these things that’s pretty much all the evidence you need to stay away from where you see them.

Don’t buy used furniture without inspecting the furniture first. Used mattresses and boxsprings are not a good idea. If you even think bedbugs might be present do not sit down or rub up against the furniture. Have regular pest control services done at you’re home or business. This will not stop a bedbug infestation but it sure could help by putting a layer of protection down to reduce the chances of bedbugs even making it. Keep in mind, bedbugs usually come in on the body, on clothing or on something you bring into the home. Bedbugs are introduced into a structure usually by people visiting, working or living in the structure.

What treatment options are available to deal with bed bug pest problems?

You have a few options available here.

First, you can study this pest, learn all about them and their life cycle and do you’re own pest control services. This way for the vast majority of people does not work out. In the end they usually have spent a great deal of money on pest control products and time with little to no control of the bed bugs.

Hire a professional to treat the bed bug problem with pesticides: You can have a professional pest control operator do a chemical treatment. This could be like gambling. If the operator knows what they are doing, has done many of these treatments you can get them under control this way in light to mild infestations. It however may require a series of pest control applications and these treatments require pesticides to be placed all over the structure. It’s not the same as a general pest control treatment service and the costs of chemical treatments can vary. Once done the costs could be higher then a heat treatment as multiple services may be needed. This may also require vacating the property for the night to allow the chemicals to dry before re-entry to the home or structure. A usually the bedbugs are not all killed or gone at the time of service.

Hire a professional to do a heat treatment service: Heat is a known killer of bedbugs. A professionally done heat treatment can eradicate bedbugs. This likely is the quickest way of getting relief and requires the least amount of follow-up work. Success rates are far higher of success with heat over just chemical.

Freezing the bedbugs: This may work to kill some bedbugs but it does not get cold enough in Oklahoma for a long enough period of time. Bedbugs are frozen with freeze machines but this may be better suited for localized areas of a known infestation and leaves much to risk.

Steam: Steam kills bedbugs but this like freezing them might be better suited as a part of a bedbug control plan.

Chemical and Heat Treatment: This provides both fast relief from bedbugs and a residual in place just in case. It also is nice if you have concerns that bedbugs have been spread to you’re vehicle.

So what’s next? Well, obviously you need to first inquire about a bedbug treatment, set the appointment and get the home ready. EnviroTech Exterminating offers Heat and or Chemical Treatment Services. We even offer a totally green service available with our heat treatment if desired for additional protection. Bed Bug’s on the Rise in Tulsa

Bed Bug’s on the rise in Tulsa

Bedbug problems are fairly common now in Tulsa. These pests are known to hitch hike from place to place meaning you can pick them up just about anywhere. That evening dinner at you’re favorite restaurant could be the same place somebody just visited that has bedbugs, thus leaving a bed bug egg or even live bedbug for you to sit on next. This same scenario could happen at the movies, the library, the laundry mat or even at somebody’s home that you know.

For the most part bedbugs go unnoticed at first. The pests trail carbon dioxide to once introduced into you’re household they will only take a short amount of time to find you sleeping in you’re bed or on the couch. Bedbugs are then easy to spread throughout the home as they leave the eggs in a number of places. The bed bug egg is sticky, tacky to the touch so they stick to you’re body or clothing making spreading them highly likely. This is why they are spreading so rapidly in the Broken Arrow, Tulsa, Jenks and Bixby area. Really no place is safe… Bedbugs do not care about social economics they only care about one thing, blood.

Bed Bug activity in the Tulsa area has increased dramatically over the last 3-5 years. Every day somebody new finds out they have bedbugs. Though they can be treated for they are difficult to eradicate. Some reasons they can be difficult is that they thrive in clutter, leave eggs in a number of hard to get to places and are excellent at hiding. Although somebody with a good plan can do treatment themselves the percentage of successful people going it alone is very low.
